Several dedicated members from the Elk Grove FFA Chapter learned the lost skill of canning produce to be entered in the California State Fair this summer.
The activity began five years ago with five students making only jam. Since then, it has grown to 34 members canning a variety of products, including pickles, barbecue sauce, jellies, jams and salsas. This gives all students an opportunity to participate in the fair.
Over the years, the fair’s judges have awarded many Elk Grove students the top prizes for their canning entries.
